When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

We use a contact form on this website in which users may email our site administrators about any issue. The data you send in these forms is not stored in the website database, but it is sent directly to our email hosting providing and is stored on their servers and hardware. We use the data you provide to provide you with a response and service that seems appropriate to the request in the email. We do not use this data for marketing purposes or add you to email list when you use the contact form unless you provide explicit consent.


If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in a way that is similar to if the visitor has visited the other website. This is particularly true of the Youtube based videos on this website. The video content itself is identical to that found on Youtube, but a variety of other features, such as the sharing features are not part of Youtubes service.

These third party websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. In short, you’re interactions with the videos on this website will be tracked by Youtube if you have an account with them (possibly through Google GMail or direct registration) and/or if you are logged into that account.


Who we share your data with

During the normal operations of this website, your data may be shared with the following services for the purposes stated:

  • Cloudflare – We use Cloudflare for our DNS hosting. Data you provide may travel through services and network in order to serve you, as the user, our web pages in all their facets
  • Cloudways – We use Cloudways for our cloud based website hosting. Data you provide is not stored in databases or services directly controlled by Cloudways as Cloudways is an intermediary service working a number of actual hardware providers, but you should be aware that employees at Cloudways can access the data stored in our databases and on the servers of the cloud providers they work with should the need arise, primarily to resolve a technical problem. This would not occur during the normal operations of this website.
  • Vultr – We use Vultr to provide the hardware for cloud based hosting service. Again, data you provide may be accessed by employees of Vultr, although this would not occur during the normal operations of this website. We do not work directly with Vultr to solve technical problems related to this website. These are resolved primarily through Cloudways.
  • Mailchimp – We use Mailchimp as our newsletter service. Data you provide, including your first name and email address will be stored on the servers and hardware that Mailchimp provides. This data is used by us, in conjunction with Mailchimp, to provide regular newsletters through email.
  • Social Network Sharing – We use a variety of social networks, including Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus to provide content to our users. We also allow all users, registered or not, to share posts on this website which may contain your personal data in the comments section.
  • Feedburner – We use Feedburner to share our newsfeed. Again, this allows users to read and view our posts which may contain data submitted through comments or voting on our content.
  • Migadu – We use Migadu for our email hosting service. Any user data you provide through the onsite contact form will flow through the Migadu email hosting network.

We are still working to link the privacy policies of these partners and will do so shortly.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Your comments will be stored in databases hosted on hardware provided by Vultr

You should use the contact form on this website to contact the website administrators if you need to do so and clearly state your privacy concerns or any actions you may require regarding the use and storage of your personal data. As a small vlogging based website with very limited revenues, we do not maintain, nor need to maintain, a dedicated Data Protection Officer.

How we protect your data

This website has many layers of protection spread across our DNS and cloud hosting, along with the website management platform that we use. A brief summary of the protection strategies we have are outlined below:

  • At our DNS service, we use a basic firewall to prevent bad actors from accessing user data through DNS or potentially, any caching information we hold with Cloudflare.
  • We conduct regular security scans using our partner service, ManageWP, to check for potential malware and other threats which may compromise user data.
  • Our Cloud hosting partner, Cloudways, provides a dedicated firewall for the server this website is hosted on along with regular server-side patching relevant to the software and programs used on the server we run this website on.

What data breach procedures we have in place

. We receive alerts of potential and actual data breaches by email and are committed to acting on those alerts as soon as possible. We treat all possible data breaches seriously and we use the professional advice provided by the services we use to rectify the problem quickly. All users will be informed of data breaches that we have identified within 72 hours of the first alert we received about the breach. We obviously make no guarantees that all breaches will be discovered and you should consider this fact when using our website and associated services.

What third parties we receive data from

As part of the advertising features on this website, advertisers may provide us with user data, particularly in relation to analytical information regarding pageviews, advertising clickthrough rates and a variety of other advertising related statistics. This information is aggregate in nature and no personal user information can be directly identified with this aggregate data.

What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data

We do not use nor provide third parties with user profile data or user comment data in order to make any sort of automated decision. We may however pass aggregate data, in which all users contribute, such as  pageview data or unique content view data to private advertisers and third party advertising platforms, such as Google Adwords. Private advertisers on this website and services like Google Adwords may use this aggregate data to make decisions about purchasing advertising on this website and/or by providing us with suitable advertising publishing content, in the case of Google Adwords.

You may take the standard procedures we have in place to request a modification or deletion of your data at any time, but you should be aware, that the aggregate data each user has a role in contributing cannot be removed from the ownership of private advertisers or other third parties once they have obtained this data.

This website is not subject to any industry regulatory disclosure requirements. This website is however subject to the privacy laws of the United States and Part A of this privacy policy deals explicitly with that requirement.

Smush sends images to the WPMU DEV servers to optimize them for web use. This includes the transfer of EXIF data. The EXIF data will either be stripped or returned as it is. It is not stored on the WPMU DEV servers. Smush uses a third-party email service (Drip) to send informational emails to the site administrator. The administrator’s email address is sent to Drip and a cookie is set by the service. Only administrator information is collected by Drip.

We use Google Analytics to track social shares made at our website. Google automatically collect and store certain information in their server logs which includes device event information such as crashes, system activity, hardware settings, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request and referral URL, cookies that may uniquely identify your browser or your Google Account, in accordance with their data privacy policy:
